Heart & Soul Animal Sanctuary is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in Santa Fe County, sitting on 130 wooded acres in the Santa Fe National Forest just outside the city. It serves as a place of refuge for abandoned, abused, sick, old, and suffering animals, and operates as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization accredited by the Association of Sanctuaries. Founder and director Natalie Owings has run the sanctuary around the clock without salary, continuing a rescue mission that has spanned more than 30 years in under-resourced areas of the country. Santa Fe County is also home to 14 other animal shelters and rescues, making it a hub of animal welfare activity in the region.
