Applicants read an introductory guide, submit an online or paper application, undergo a home visit interview, and if approved are matched with and can meet available dogs; adoption requires a donation ($250–$600), a signed adoption contract, and follow-up check-ins after placement.

Doberman Rescue Unlimited (DRU) is a rescue organization based in Sandown, New Hampshire, in Rockingham County, about 7 miles southwest of Derry, NH, where 13 other animal shelters and rescues are also located. Established in 1988, DRU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing abused, abandoned, and unwanted Dobermans and placing them in good, safe, and loving homes throughout the greater New England region and beyond. Since its founding, DRU has provided rescue services for close to 3,000 dogs and typically has 30+ dogs in its care at any given time. In addition to rehoming Dobermans, the organization educates the public about the breed and responsible, humane animal care, relying solely on membership dues, donations, and fundraising for its income.
