Tupelo-Lee Humane Society in Tupelo, MS
Tupelo-Lee Humane Society is a humane society located in Tupelo, Mississippi, in Lee County, about 80 miles northwest of Olive Branch, MS. Founded in December 1979, it was created to address companion animal overpopulation and to replace the local "pound" with a true animal shelter, and it now operates out of a former veterinarian's clinic at 2400 S. Gloster St. The shelter contracts with the city of Tupelo to provide animal control services and receives funding from Lee County to take in strays from unincorporated areas, supplementing this with membership dues, donations, and fundraisers as a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. It takes an aggressive approach to adoption, averaging around 110 adoptions per month with roughly a 40% adoption rate, requires spay/neuter for all adopted animals, and has performed rescues ranging from trapped cats to starving horses and abandoned emus.
