About this shelter

Mower County Humane Society in AUSTIN, MN

We are a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) No Kill shelter that does not receive funding from Mower County, the City of Austin, Minnesota, or the state. Our funding comes solely from adoption fees, donations, and fundraising efforts, with all resources directed to animal care and no funds allocated for payroll. We collaborate with local law enforcement and the city pound to ensure that no animals are euthanized once their hold period has expired and they remain unclaimed. Our typical population includes approximately 30 dogs and 130 cats. In addition to rescuing and sheltering animals, we partner with local veterinarians to offer periodic low-cost spay/neuter clinics, and we host the MNSnap.org mobile surgical veterinary unit on-site six times a year to provide reduced-cost spay/neuter services. Though we are small in size, we are large in heart and commitment.

Adopting from Mower County Humane Society

Adoption process

The adoption process begins with a written application form that includes questions about your housing situation, such as whether you rent or own your home. If you rent, landlord approval is required. The application also asks about your history with previous or current pets, veterinary information, and details about how you will house the animal, such as the requirement for cats to be kept indoors and for dogs to have a fenced yard. Adoption fees are $50 for a cat and $75 for two cats. Fees for dog adoptions vary based on breed and size, with the average cost being around $125.
