American Maltese Assoc. Rescue in Escondido, CA
American Maltese Assoc. Rescue (AMAR) is a rescue organization based in Escondido, California, in San Diego County, about 35 miles south of San Diego, and shares the county with 40 other animal shelters and rescues. Founded in 2012 as a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit, AMAR is entirely volunteer-run and foster-based, providing adoption services for Maltese dogs and Maltese mixes who are surrendered by owners, found homeless, or pulled from shelters. The organization covers all medical expenses for the dogs in its care, including spay/neuter, diagnostics, and dental work, and also offers support, information, and public education on breed characteristics and behavioral or health concerns. Some senior or medically fragile dogs become permanent "Special Angels," remaining in foster care under AMAR's support for the rest of their lives.
