First Light Farm Equine Shelter in Perry, ME
First Light Farm Equine Shelter is an equine rescue located in Perry, Maine, in Washington County, about 80 miles west of Bangor, and shares the county with 6 other animal shelters and rescues. The shelter provides a safe haven for horses, ponies, donkeys, and other equines that have suffered neglect, abuse, or abandonment, or whose owners can no longer care for them, with the goal of rehabilitating and rehoming each animal through a thorough adoption process. It is licensed by the Maine Animal Welfare Program and run entirely by volunteers, relying solely on donations to cover feed, veterinary care, farrier work, and dental care for the horses in its care. Some animals arrive as direct owner surrenders while others come through the state's animal welfare program, and the shelter emphasizes that even saving one horse at a time makes a real difference.
