Adoption Process

Before adopting a pet, an adoption application must be completed. This application can be filled out at our facility or downloaded from our website by selecting the "Applications and Fees" link. Once completed, the application should be emailed to us at [email protected]. The standard adoption fee is $40 for cats and $60 for dogs, which includes the first distemper vaccination, deworming, a bath if necessary, a pet information packet, a slip leash for dogs or a carrier for cats, and a complimentary office visit at a participating local veterinarian. The adopted pet must be spayed or neutered at the adopter's expense at a veterinary hospital of their choice. A $50 surgery deposit is required at the time of adoption, which will be applied toward the surgery cost. All purebred animals must be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter, with arrangements made between the adopter and the shelter. The typical adoption fee for animals that have been spayed or neutered at the shelter's expense is $65 for cats and $110 for dogs. Fees may vary based on the specific animal and its circumstances. We do not ship animals to adopters. We encourage prospective adopters to bring all family members to meet and select their new pet. Adopters will need to complete an application form and provide contact information for their veterinarian and landlord as references.

Parke Vermillion County Humane Society in Hillsdale, IN

The Parke Vermillion County Humane Society, established in 1991, is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the humane treatment of animals, preventing animal cruelty, alleviating animal suffering, and promoting the importance of spaying and neutering for population control. Since April 1991, we have been serving the animals of Parke and Vermillion Counties in Indiana. Our shelter, built in 2000 and opened in late November of that year, accepts both stray and owner-surrendered animals. After ensuring that each animal is vaccinated and medically examined, we offer them for adoption. We are committed to finding suitable placements for all adoptable animals, either through direct adoption or by partnering with rescue organizations.
