Adoption Process

Complete an adoption application to view or express interest in an animal; once approved, an adoption counselor schedules an in-person meet and greet; if you proceed, the adoption is finalized (same day if the animal is already spayed/neutered, otherwise after surgery or a short waiting period).

West Suburban Humane Society in Downers Grove, IL

West Suburban Humane Society is a volunteer-based animal welfare organization located in Downers Grove, Illinois, roughly seven miles southwest of Naperville, in DuPage County—home to 17 other animal shelters and rescues. Founded in 1972, WSHS operates at full capacity, providing care and housing for up to 25 dogs and 60 cats on-site, with additional animals supported through its network of foster homes. As a humane society, it relies on two full-time and eight part-time staff along with numerous volunteers to run its adoption programs, and it works to match each dog or cat with a family suited to that animal's needs and lifestyle.
