Adoption Process

Our organization operates entirely with the dedication of volunteers who invest significant time and effort into Lean On Me Doberman Rescue (LOMDR). Our fulfillment comes from successfully matching orphaned Dobermans with their forever homes. If you are looking for a quick adoption process, LOMDR may not be the right choice for you. We believe it is essential to approach each step of the application process with thoroughness and care for the benefit of all involved. Step 1: Begin by completing the application and returning it to LOMDR. You can submit your application via regular mail, email, or fax. The mailing address, email, and fax number are provided at the top of the application. Please be aware that you may interact with multiple volunteers throughout the application process. Step 2: After your application is received, a volunteer will reach out to you. We ask for your patience, as it may take up to a week for a volunteer to contact you due to the nature of our volunteer organization. This volunteer will discuss your needs or the specific dog you are interested in to assess compatibility. Step 3: We will conduct veterinarian and reference checks. It is essential that your current and past pets are up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and maintained on heartworm preventative. LOMDR is committed to controlling the pet population and will not approve adoptions for homes with unspayed or unneutered animals unless there is a medical reason or if you are showing your dog. Step 4: While we process your application, a volunteer will schedule an interview and home visit. This visit is to ensure a safe environment for the dog and to confirm the information provided in your application. The interview will also help ensure that your family understands the responsibilities of owning and caring for a Doberman. If possible, this is an opportunity for you to meet the dog and observe family interactions. The adoption process will not be finalized until the interview and home visit are completed. Step 5: We reserve the right to decline an applicant if we determine that the home situation does not meet the needs of a Doberman or if the breed is not suitable for the applicant. To finalize an adoption, a contract must be signed and an adoption donation must be made. This donation helps cover the medical costs incurred for your new pet. All adoption donations should be made payable to Lean On Me Doberman Rescue. As a non-profit organization, these fees are pooled to assist the next Doberman Pinscher in need of our help. The adoption donations are as follows: $300 for puppies (7 months and under) and $250 for adults.

We operate as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in the State of Illinois, relying entirely on volunteers. Our mission is to educate the public about animal rescue, promote responsible dog ownership, and reduce the abuse and neglect of Doberman Pinscher dogs. We provide educational services focused on training, spaying and neutering, and humane care, while also advocating for responsible dog ownership. Lean On Me Doberman Rescue is committed to saving abused, abandoned, surrendered, and homeless Dobermans. Our goal is to restore their health, rehabilitate them, and find them safe, loving permanent homes. We function through a network of qualified foster homes and depend entirely on donations and fundraising efforts.
