Applicants submit an online adoption application, then go through foster parent dialog, reference checks, a phone interview, a home visit, and a final decision; once approved, they sign a contract, pay the adoption fee, and arrange transport or pickup of the dog.

New Rattitude Rat Terrier Rescue and Adoption is a rescue organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, located in DeKalb County, about 20 miles southwest of Atlanta, where it shares the area with 13 other animal shelters and rescues. It is a national, foster-home-based rescue made up of Rat Terrier lovers across the country who work together to rescue Rat Terriers and Rat Terrier mixes and place them in a nationwide network of private foster homes. Dogs stay in foster care until they can be permanently settled into screened and approved adoptive homes. Incorporated in 2008, the organization has rescued and rehomed over 2,900 rat terriers through the efforts of its volunteer members and supporters.
