Humane Society of Camden County in Kingsland, GA
The Humane Society of Camden County, Inc. (HSCC) is a private non-profit organization that has been dedicated to serving the needs of homeless and abandoned animals since its establishment in 1986. The HSCC has a contractual agreement with Camden County, which includes the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine. The county provides a portion of our annual budget in exchange for our services in housing stray animals. We hold these strays for a period of five days, allowing owners the opportunity to reclaim their lost pets. After this period, the animals become the property of the HSCC and may be moved to our adoptable section. There is no time limit for how long an animal can remain in this section, and some may stay for months until they find a permanent home. In March 2000, we relocated to a new climate-controlled shelter that is five times larger than our previous facility. To better accommodate the increasing number of animals and enhance our operations, we opened an intake building in 2005. Since our founding, the Humane Society has organized numerous fundraising events to support our mission. We aim to expand our programs and seminars to educate the public about the challenges faced by homeless animals and to highlight the many loving animals available for adoption at our shelter. The HSCC is governed by a volunteer board, supported by a dedicated paid staff at the shelter. Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and to work collaboratively with municipal, state, and county authorities to prosecute individuals who are guilty of such acts. We provide relief to abandoned animals in distress, assist in finding new homes for them, and promote kindness towards animals through public education and other ethical means. We are incorporated under the laws of the state of Georgia as "The Humane Society of Camden County, Inc." and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. We receive animals through various channels. Some are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them, face obedience issues, or are relocating. Others are brought to us by Animal Control Officers in Camden County, who rescue animals found wandering the streets, whether they are strays or abandoned. Additionally, we receive animals from Kings Bay Naval Base and surrounding areas, and occasionally, we find animals left in our front yard.
