About this shelter

Ashe Humane Society in West Jefferson, NC

Ashe Humane Society is a humane society located in West Jefferson, North Carolina, about 70 miles east of Winston-Salem, NC. Founded in 2004, it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers and funded solely by donations and non-governmental grants, working to enhance the welfare of companion animals and reduce the population of unwanted animals in Ashe County. The organization operates as a foster-based rescue, placing dogs and cats in private homes with experienced fosters while covering all associated costs, and it also runs a Trap-Neuter-Return program for feral cats, a Citizen's Benevolence Program subsidizing spay/neuter and pet essentials, and a fence-building program called Off The Chain for dogs living tethered outdoors. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
