About this shelter

America's Equine Sanctuary at Blue Shadow Farm in Denton, NC

America's Equine Sanctuary at Blue Shadow Farm is an equine rescue located in Denton, North Carolina, about 30 miles north of Winston-Salem, and is open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The sanctuary traces its roots to 1986, when its founder took in Penny, a Shetland pony whose owner threatened to shoot her, and has been taking in horses ever since. It accepts horses, donkeys, mules, and ponies, working with county animal shelters and private owners to place equines in need, with some animals available for adoption and others living out their lives as permanent residents. Its mission is to prevent neglect and abuse of equines through community education, shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption, and it has operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 2013.
