The Animal Welfare Society, located at 23 Poor Farm Road in Kearneysville, West Virginia, near the fairgrounds, has proudly cared for Jefferson County's animals since 1952. The shelter is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Located about 25 miles northeast of Hagerstown, MD, the shelter finds new homes for dogs and cats and offers a spay/neuter discount coupon program to help make sterilization affordable for the community. Recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, it relies on volunteers, foster homes, and donations to support its mission of animal welfare.
