About this shelter
Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet, MA
Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, about 50 miles west of Brockton, and is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Spanning 1,183 acres along Wellfleet Harbor, the sanctuary offers five miles of trails through salt marsh, sandy barrier beach, and pine woodlands that attract a wide array of wildlife. The property was once farmland—asparagus and turnip fields, open meadows, and dairy pasture—before being preserved as a wildlife sanctuary. Staff and volunteers here are actively involved in conservation projects protecting sea turtles, diamondback terrapins, and horseshoe crabs.
