About this shelter

The Promised Land Dachshund Sanctuary in Gardendale, TX

The Promised Land Dachshund Sanctuary is located in Gardendale, Texas, roughly 160 miles northwest of Roswell, NM, and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Founded by Rick and Connie Eicher after more than 20 years of rescuing dogs, the sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit specializing in special needs and senior dachshunds, though it occasionally has younger, healthier pups available for adoption. The facility, known as "Trooper's Dream," is named after a dachshund rescued from a 2016 Baton Rouge flood whose remarkable recovery inspired widespread community support, and supporters of the sanctuary are affectionately called "Team Trooper." Connie now serves as a consultant to the organization, sharing the experience she gained over years of hands-on rescue work.
