Bluffton Animal Shelter, officially known as the Bluffton-Wells Co. Animal Shelter, is a joint venture of the City of Bluffton and Wells County, located at 1613 W. Cherry Street in Bluffton, Indiana, about 25 miles north of Fort Wayne. The shelter is staffed by three full-time employees and is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, accepting only pets from Wells County. Its mission is to ensure public health and safety and prevent overpopulation, animal neglect, and cruelty through education, rescue, law enforcement, and pet adoption, taking in strays, unwanted animals, and pets surrendered by owners. Adoption fees include a physical exam, vaccines, deworming, and flea treatment, and the shelter is supported by the volunteer group Wells County Friends of the Shelter, which assists with fostering, fundraising, and community outreach.
