The Pet Adoption Center at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is located in Gainesville, Georgia, about 35 miles southeast of Athens. The Adoption Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., with no appointment necessary to meet available dogs and cats. All animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and ticks, and dewormed before adoption, with dogs also receiving heartworm testing and preventative treatment as needed and cats tested for feline leukemia and/or FIV. The shelter uses variable adoption pricing, charging higher fees for highly adoptable pets to help offset care for older animals, those with extensive medical needs, or pets that require more time to find a home.
