About this shelter

Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Newport News, VA

Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is located in Newport News, Virginia, approximately 6 miles north of the city, and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. It is a collaborative venture supported by four Hampton Roads communities—Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York County—and is managed and operated by the City of Newport News on behalf of all four jurisdictions. The 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is an "open-admission" shelter with a full-service veterinary clinic and capacity for approximately 100 dogs and 180 cats, along with pocket pets and other small companion animals. Its primary responsibilities include holding stray animals until they can be reunited with their owners, rehoming owner-surrendered pets, facilitating pet adoptions, and housing animal control offices for the participating jurisdictions.
