Adoption Process

Adopters must be at least 18 years old and bring a government-issued photo ID showing their current address (or proof of current address if outdated); after spending time with a pet, they complete an adoption application for review by an adoption counselor, and adoptions are first come, first served with no holds.

DFW Humane Society is a nonprofit animal shelter located in Dallas, Texas, roughly 15 miles southeast of the city. Established in 1967, it is a leading animal rescue organization dedicated to giving neglected and unwanted pets a second chance at life through adoption, rescuing over 700 pets each year from across the DFW area. The shelter relies heavily on volunteers and fosters, who help socialize and care for dogs and cats while they await their forever homes, and it also runs a pet food pantry to assist community members. Visitors can meet adoptable pets Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
