Adoption Process

Potential adopters must call to discuss adoption and demonstrate they will be responsible pet owners; dogs are healthy, obedience trained, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated, and new owners are required to attend obedience classes after adopting.

Arlington Humane Society is a humane society located in Arlington, Texas, about 15 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Founded in 1984 by pet industry professionals—veterinarians, kennel owners, and dog trainers—the Society operates on the principle of "Retention, Not Surrender," working to help owners keep their pets through training, behavior resolution programs, and low-cost veterinary services rather than encouraging surrender. It is a non-killing, educational organization run entirely by volunteers, operating out of donated space provided by local kennels and veterinarians, and it only accepts healthy, adoptable animals from owners who have exhausted every other option. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
