Five Acres Animal Shelter is located at 1099 Pralle Lane in St. Charles, Missouri, about 20 miles southeast of St. Louis. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 1:00–6:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM. Every year it welcomes more than 1,600 homeless cats and dogs, all of whom are microchipped, vaccinated, and altered before their adoptions are finalized, and the shelter reports that 99% of its pets find their forever families. Beyond adoptions, Five Acres works to end pet homelessness in the community and helps pets stay with their people through various programs and resources.

Adoptions are first-come/first-served; you can fill out an online application beforehand or in person, meet with an adoption counselor for a meet-and-greet, and finalize the adoption if it's a good match.
