Midlands Humane Society is located at 1020 Railroad Ave in Council Bluffs, Iowa, about 7 miles west of Omaha, NE. Its mission is to protect and nurture companion animals and enrich the lives of the people who love them, and it operates as the first and only humane society serving Council Bluffs and Pottawattamie County. The shelter finds homes for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small critters, and also runs a Working Cat Program, foster care, lost-and-found services, a pet pantry, and a low-cost microchip clinic. It's open Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Adopters view available animals, complete an adoption application (must be at least 18), then do a meet-and-greet with staff (required for dogs, not done for cats/critters); adoption is completed the same day by signing a contract, reviewing medical info, registering the microchip, and paying by cash or card, on a first-come, first-served basis.
