The Humane Society of St. Lucie County is a non-profit organization located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, about 90 miles south of Fort Lauderdale, dedicated to providing compassionate care and safe shelter for homeless animals while educating the community on responsible pet ownership. It has been an official no-kill shelter since October 2019, working to find good, safe, and loving homes for the dogs and cats in its care. The shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and beyond adoptions it offers programs such as dog training, a pet food pantry, an emergency medical fund, and a foster program.

Adoption process

Adopters must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license or state ID showing current address, provide landlord or parent approval if applicable, and complete a "get acquainted visit" with the animal plus a pre-adoption visit with any other dogs already living in the home; the shelter reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
