Adoption Process

Potential adopters are required to complete an adoption application. Each application will be reviewed, and the applicant will be notified of the status within 24 to 48 hours. Once approved, the adopter must arrange to pick up the dog or cat within 24 hours. Every adoption begins with a seven-day home visit, which serves as a trial period to ensure the animal is a good fit for the home and family. At the end of this seven-day period, the adopter must return to the shelter to either finalize the adoption and receive all necessary paperwork and records for the adopted animal or return the animal for a full refund if they decide not to proceed with the adoption. Adoption fees are as follows: - Adult Cat (12 months and older): $90.00 - Kitten (under 12 months): $110.00 All cat and kitten adoptions include spay/neuter, leukemia testing, a complete series of vaccinations, flea treatment and de-wormer, an ID microchip, a take-home carrier, and an adoption packet. - Puppy (under 6 months): $250.00 - Dog (7 months and older): $165.00 All dog and puppy adoptions include spay/neuter, a complete series of vaccinations, heartworm testing, flea treatment and de-wormer, an ID microchip, a leash and collar, and an adoption packet. Columbia Humane Society reserves the right to approve or deny any adoption application for any reason deemed appropriate.
