Adoption Process
Omega Horse Rescue adopts horses to individuals who are 18 years or older and reside in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and certain areas of New York and Virginia within a five-hour drive of Airville, PA. Our mission is to place horses in "forever" homes where they will receive lifelong care. We aim to match each horse with the right adopter, considering their lifestyle, home environment, and emotional needs. Omega Horse Rescue reserves the right to deny any adoption application for any reason. Horses can only be viewed by appointment, and only after an adoption application has been approved. Please note that processing applications requires significant time from our volunteers, and a fee of $25 is required for all submitted applications. This fee can be paid through PayPal or Venmo. By adopting a horse from Omega Horse Rescue, you agree to provide that horse with a loving and caring home for its entire life. If at any point you are unable to care for the horse or choose to no longer keep it, you must return the horse to us. Horses cannot be sold or rehomed, and adopters are prohibited from breeding or racing any horse adopted from our organization. Omega Horse Rescue retains full legal ownership of every horse that enters our care for its entire life. This "Protective Ownership" policy allows us to reclaim a horse if it is found in an unsatisfactory situation. While this policy may seem strict, it is designed to ensure the best outcomes for both the horses and their adopters. To begin the adoption process, you should complete our online adoption application and submit the $25 fee via PayPal or Venmo. Please inform your references that they may be contacted. After submitting your application, email pictures of your barn or shelter and fencing to [email protected]. Once your application is processed, you will receive an email or phone call to schedule a visit. If the adoption is successful, you will be required to sign a lifelong no-sale contract and pay the adoption fee before bringing your chosen horse home. Adoption fees for riding horses generally start at $2,000 and may increase based on the horse's skill level and training. Fees for companion horses vary but are typically lower. All horses adopted from Omega Horse Rescue will be branded with the Omega mark and will be up-to-date on Coggins testing, vaccinations (including boosters), full medical evaluations, riding evaluations (if applicable), and professional training (if necessary), as well as current dental and farrier care.

Omega horse rescue and rehabilitation in Airville, PA
Omega Horse Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring humane treatment for all equines through education, research, and high-quality care. Our goal is to find nurturing homes for as many equines as possible within our financial means, and we are committed to rehabilitating these animals to offer them a second chance at a healthy and productive life. Our team advocates for neglected horses, those left at auctions or kill pens, and those donated to our organization. Our mission is clear and unwavering: to educate horse owners about the responsibilities involved in equine care, to advocate for humane treatment of horses everywhere, and to find suitable homes for unwanted, abused, or neglected equines. Our founder has been involved in horse rescue for 30 years and established the organization as a non-profit in 1997. Kelly Young Smith, the Director of the Rescue, has witnessed the suffering that equines often endure and works tirelessly to save lives and offer these animals a chance for a better future. Currently, we care for over 100 horses each year, making significant strides toward improving the lives of equines. It is important to note that not all of our horses are victims of abuse or neglect; many are donated by owners who can no longer provide adequate care and wish for their animals to find loving homes.
