Our organization was established in 2019, founded by Willadean Jackson, who was deeply concerned about the poor living conditions at the Macon City Shelter, which functions primarily as a dog pound. After reaching out to others on Facebook, we formed a non-profit dedicated to assisting animals in Macon County, Missouri, particularly in small town shelters and rural areas. Over time, we have also extended our efforts to neighboring Shelby County due to the absence of a humane society in both counties, leaving us in a challenging situation for animal assistance. Initially, our goal was to build a shelter; however, we soon realized that the costs would exceed our fundraising capabilities. In the past five years, we have experienced significant growth in both membership and the number of animals saved. Like many rescues, we are inundated with inquiries from individuals seeking our help. Our current primary objective is to provide spay/neuter services to our community to help manage the pet population. We have received generous donations that enable us to offer free spay/neuter surgeries. Additionally, we have collaborated with the city of Macon to enhance the conditions of the shelter, making it a much more suitable environment for dogs than it was in the past. Our journey has not been without challenges, including changes in membership; however, we currently have a dedicated team committed to improving the lives of animals in our region.
