Adoption Process

Interested adopters are required to complete a three-page adoption application. Once we receive the completed application, we will contact the applicant by phone. We will check references and reach out to the adopter's veterinarian for verification. If everything is satisfactory, we will request a video tour of the potential adopter's home or schedule an in-home visit. The final step in the process is signing the adoption contract, which differs for cats and dogs as well as for barn cats. Adoption fees may vary based on the time of year and the number of animals that need homes.

Storybook Rescues, Inc in Cat Spring, TX

We are both a rescue organization and a sanctuary dedicated to saving domestic and farm animals from abuse, abandonment, injury, and potential death. Our mission includes restoring their health and building trust through a network of compassionate foster caregivers. All foster applicants undergo a vetting process to ensure the well-being of the animals. Animals that are rehabilitated and deemed adoptable receive spaying, neutering, or gelding and are placed in carefully vetted permanent homes. Those that cannot be adopted will spend their lives at Storybook Rescues. The organization was founded by Merrick Stern, who dedicates significant time to the trap-neuter-return (TNR) of stray and feral cats in South Central Texas. She also organizes adoption events and speaks on the importance of TNR, sterilization of pets, and humane treatment of all animals. As of mid-August 2024, Storybook Rescues has helped over 400 cats and kittens this year alone, with 46 of them finding new homes. The majority of the remaining cats have been returned to their original trapping locations. In addition to cats, we have also rescued 21 dogs, four horses, and eight other species this year. We believe that every animal deserves to live in a humane environment where they are loved and treated as part of a family.
