Adoption Process
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A HOME Adopters must be at least 18 years old and provide a valid photo ID. All adults living in the household must agree to the adoption. All pets in the household must be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations, unless there is a medical reason that prevents this. Renters are required to obtain permission from their landlord before bringing a new animal home. Adopters should not have a history of animal ordinance violations, irresponsible pet ownership, animal cruelty, or surrendering animals to shelters that euthanize. Dogs will not be adopted solely for the purpose of being guard dogs, watch dogs, or outdoor-only pets. Adopters must meet any specific needs of the animal and demonstrate the financial capability to care for the animal. Cats adopted through our organization must be kept as indoor pets. If you currently have pets or have had pets within the last two years, you must provide a veterinarian reference. Military families must be permanently stationed at Goodfellow AFB and have a solid support system and a plan for their pet in case of deployment or relocation. Additionally, military families may not be eligible to adopt certain dog breeds restricted by legislation in specific states. THE APPLICATION PROCESS We process applications in the order they are received, striving to ensure a smooth and enjoyable adoption experience. We aim to complete the application review within 24 to 48 hours. Please provide the most accurate contact information for your references. To expedite the veterinary reference process, you may bring copies of your current pets' veterinary records, including spay or neuter documentation and vaccination history.
