Adoption Process

The cost of adopting a dog varies based on the dog's age and category. Puppies aged 0 to 6 months are available for $250, adult dogs aged 6 months and older for $125, VIP dogs for $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older also for $50. Please ensure you have a valid picture ID when adopting an animal from the SPCA of Texas. Adopting a dog includes several services and items: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, distemper vaccination, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (for dogs at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test for adults, heartworm preventative for puppies and adults, free heartworm treatment for all heartworm-positive dogs through a partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption (also through VCA Animal Hospitals), and a temporary leash. The cost of adopting a cat is $125 for kittens, while for adult cats, you can name your own price and benefit from a two-for-one offer. As with dogs, a valid picture ID is required to adopt a cat from the SPCA of Texas. Included in a cat adoption are: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, appropriate vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (for cats at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption (through VCA Animal Hospitals), and a temporary carrier.
