Adoption Process

Adopting a dog from the SPCA of Texas involves a fee based on the dog's age and classification. The costs are as follows: puppies aged 0-6 months are $250, adult dogs 6 months or older are $125, VIP dogs are $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older are also $50. It is important to note that a valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal. Included in the dog adoption fee are several benefits: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, distemper vaccination, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (for dogs at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test for adults, heartworm preventative for puppies and adults, free heartworm treatment for heartworm-positive dogs through a partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, and a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption, also through VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, adopters receive a temporary leash. For cat adoption, the fees are $125 for kittens and a "name your own price" option for adult cats, with a two-for-one deal available. A valid picture ID is also required for cat adoptions. Cat adoption includes similar benefits: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance from PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia as appropriate, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (for cats at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, and a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption through VCA Animal Hospitals. Adopters will also receive a temporary carrier and a microchip.
