Adoption Process

The cost of adopting a dog from the SPCA of Texas varies by age and category. Puppies aged 0 to 6 months are available for $250, adult dogs aged 6 months or older for $125, VIP dogs for $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older for $50. A valid picture ID is required to adopt any animal. The dog adoption package includes the following items and services: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, distemper vaccination, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (if the dog is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test for adults, heartworm preventative for puppies and adults, free heartworm treatment for all heartworm-positive dogs through our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption through VCA Animal Hospitals, and a temporary leash. For cat adoptions, the fee for kittens is $125, while for adult cats, adopters can name their own price and take advantage of a two-for-one offer. A valid picture ID is also required for cat adoptions. The cat adoption package includes spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, appropriate vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (if at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption through VCA Animal Hospitals, a temporary carrier, and a microchip.
