Adoption Process
The cost of adopting a dog varies based on the dog's age and status. Puppies aged 0 to 6 months are available for $250, adult dogs aged 6 months or older for $125, VIP dogs for $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older for $50. A valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal from the SPCA of Texas. When you adopt a dog, the following services and items are included: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, distemper vaccination, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (if the dog is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test (for adults), heartworm preventative (for puppies and adults), free heartworm treatment for all heartworm positive dogs through our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption (through VCA Animal Hospitals), and a temporary leash. The cost to adopt a cat also differs. Kittens are available for $125, while for adult cats, you can name your own price, with a two-for-one offer available. A valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal from the SPCA of Texas. When you adopt a cat, the following services and items are included: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical exam, health evaluation, behavior assessment, vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia as appropriate, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (if the cat is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption (through VCA Animal Hospitals), a temporary carrier, and a microchip.
