Adoption Process

The cost of adopting a dog varies based on age and special designations. Puppies aged 0-6 months are available for $250, adult dogs 6 months or older for $125, VIP dogs for $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older for $50. A valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal from the SPCA of Texas. Included in a dog adoption are the following services and items: - Spay or neuter surgery - 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth - A physical examination - A health evaluation - A behavior assessment - Distemper vaccination - Kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination - Rabies vaccination (for dogs at least 4 months old) - A rabies tag - A starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Dog Food - Flea and tick treatment - A heartworm test for adult dogs - Heartworm preventative for puppies and adults - Free heartworm treatment for all heartworm-positive dogs, thanks to our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals - De-worming treatment - Microchip - Follow-up support - A free health examination within fourteen days of adoption, also provided through our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals - A temporary leash The cost of adopting a cat is $125 for kittens, while adult cats can be adopted for a name-your-own-price option, with a two-for-one deal available. A valid picture ID is also required to adopt a cat from the SPCA of Texas. Included in a cat adoption are the following services and items: - Spay or neuter surgery - 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth - A physical examination - A health evaluation - A behavior assessment - Appropriate vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia - Kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination - Rabies vaccination (for cats at least 4 months old) - A rabies tag - A starter bag of Hill's Science Diet Cat Food - Flea and tick treatment - De-worming treatment - Microchip - Follow-up support - A free health examination within fourteen days of adoption, courtesy of our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals - A temporary carrier
