Adoption Process

If you are interested in a pet, please reach out to us via email or by calling (806) 622-0555 for more information. The adoption fee is $100 per animal, and we require a completed adoption application for each animal to facilitate the approval process. We highly recommend considering fostering an animal before making a decision to adopt, and we encourage you to inquire about our fostering procedure. Adoptions take place at our shelter located at 11901 S. Coulter, Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Additionally, we conduct adoption events at PETCO every Friday from 6:00 PM until closing and at Petsmart every Saturday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The adoption fee during these events is $85 and includes the pet's initial vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and rabies vaccination.

Amarillo SPCA in Amarillo, TX

The Amarillo SPCA is a nonprofit organization recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, operating exclusively on donations and fundraising efforts. We manage a shelter for dogs and cats, currently housing approximately 140 animals, most of which reside at our facility while some are temporarily placed in foster homes. A primary concern for our organization is the issue of pet overpopulation. We believe it is crucial to educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Additionally, we ensure that every animal adopted from the SPCA is sterilized prior to being placed in a new home. We receive daily inquiries from individuals seeking assistance with their pets, whether they need to surrender them or require help with food and medical care. We strive to assist whenever possible. Although our kennels are often at capacity, we make every effort to accommodate homeless animals. Due to our own operational expenses, we are typically unable to cover pet care costs for the public. However, we do offer spay and neuter vouchers at a significantly reduced fee, as well as microchipping services to the community at a lower cost. As our organization has expanded, we have found that volunteers alone cannot fulfill the staffing needs of the shelter. We now employ a shelter manager and part-time staff, alongside our dedicated volunteers, to ensure the effective operation of the facility. Many animals that come to us require immediate medical attention. Every animal receives vaccinations, a microchip, and sterilization before being adopted into new homes. The costs associated with these services often exceed the adoption fee of $100. We are committed to providing the highest quality medical care for our animals, regardless of expense, which results in significant veterinary bills. To facilitate access to information about animal-related organizations and events in the Texas Panhandle, we have developed this website as a resource for individuals seeking advice or care for their pets. We invite anyone associated with animal welfare organizations, specialized pet-owner groups (such as pet therapy or obedience training), or businesses that provide services for animals (such as veterinarians, groomers, or pet sitters) to reach out to us. We would like to promote your organization or business to the public. However, we must respectfully decline to list any breeders or promote breeding services, as this does not align with our mission to address the pet overpopulation crisis.
