Adoption Process

Our adoption process is thorough because we aim to ensure a lasting match between our dogs and their new families. To schedule a visit with the GLWR dogs available for adoption, you must first submit an application to adopt. There is no application fee. The application process includes a written application, a reference check, a phone interview, and a verification of your home environment. This verification may involve either a physical home visit by a GLWR volunteer or a digital tour, depending on logistics and timing. The entire process typically takes about 5 to 10 days. After completing the application process, a GLWR Adoption Coordinator will be assigned to assist you. They will discuss your interests and help identify available dogs that may suit your family. Once a potential match is found, you will be connected with the dog’s foster family, who will share more details about the dog and arrange a visit at their home. While the process may seem lengthy, it is designed to ensure that both the dogs and families are well-matched and that the dog you are interested in is still available when you receive approval to adopt. We prioritize the safety and comfort of our volunteers and foster families, which is why thorough screening of potential adopters is important. To meet a fostered Weimaraner, all family members must visit the dog's location to create a comfortable environment for the introduction. This includes any other pets in the household. If the meeting goes well, adopters can take their new rescue Weimaraner home on the same day after signing the GLWR contract. The contract outlines important responsibilities, including that dogs must be kept in humane conditions and, if they are not a suitable fit, must be returned to GLWR. Once a dog joins our rescue, they become part of the GLWR family, and we maintain an active relationship with adopters to support the success of both the dog and the family. The adoption fees are as follows: $450 for puppies and dogs aged 8 weeks to 1 year $400 for dogs aged 2 to 3 years $350 for dogs aged 4 to 6 years $300 for dogs aged 7 to 9 years $250 for dogs aged 10 years and older

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue in Grand Haven, MI

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue (GLWR) is a foster-based rescue organization that does not operate a traditional kennel facility like many humane societies or animal shelters. Instead, our dogs are housed in family homes and cared for by foster families until we find permanent homes for them. As a result, our process for meeting and adopting dogs may differ from that of standard animal control facilities, humane societies, or shelters. GLWR is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue and placement of Weimaraners in the Great Lakes Region. We collaborate with a network of shelters across multiple states and assist owners who need to relinquish their dogs. Our committed volunteers work tirelessly, and we rely heavily on the support of our community to carry out our mission. The welfare of the dogs is our top priority. Our volunteers dedicate countless hours to caring for sick dogs and driving to rescue others from shelters. Their sacrifices enable us to give each dog a chance at a better life. Your generous contributions in the form of transportation, gas cards, phone work, fundraising, and dog care are crucial in allowing us to assist hundreds of dogs. GLWR follows a no-kill philosophy and will never euthanize a dog to accommodate others. The demand for Weimaraners needing rescue is constant, and we strive to bring dogs into our care before they face dire circumstances. Unfortunately, there are occasions when a dog passes away before we can rescue them, which motivates us to work even harder to prevent future losses. Upon joining GLWR, each dog's medical and emotional needs are assessed and addressed. We are committed to ensuring that all dogs receive the care necessary to help them transition into their forever homes. Medical expenses represent our largest financial burden, and your donations enable us to tackle health issues promptly. Our sole focus is the well-being of Weimaraners. Our fulfillment comes not from being recognized as "rescuers," but from witnessing the transformation in dogs that were once sad and hopeless. With your support, we have provided them with the opportunity to experience the love and care of a devoted family.
