Ocean Hill Cats Inc in Brooklyn, NY

Ocean Hill Cats is dedicated to humanely and safely addressing the significant overpopulation of stray and feral cats in our community while enhancing the quality of life for those living outdoors. Female kittens can become pregnant as early as four months and can produce four to five litters annually, resulting in high mortality rates among kittens and forcing survivors to compete for resources. To combat this issue, we engage in a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, where we humanely capture feral cats and transport them to veterinary clinics. There, they receive spaying or neutering, vaccinations, flea treatments, and deworming before being returned to their original locations. Each cat is marked with a small tip removed from their ear during surgery to indicate they have been fixed and do not require re-trapping. After their return, we ensure ongoing care for these community cats by either managing the colonies ourselves or collaborating with volunteers to provide food, water, and shelter. If any of the cats under our care become sick or injured, we take them in for necessary veterinary treatment. When feasible, we also strive to find homes for street cats, particularly for friendly cats in hazardous environments, sick cats that cannot thrive outside, or abandoned pets. Additionally, we support low-income and vulnerable residents who own cats by facilitating access to low-cost veterinary and spay/neuter services through scheduling, transportation, and recovery assistance. We are committed to raising awareness about cat overpopulation in Brooklyn through social media and personal outreach within the community.
