Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with a comprehensive application available on our website. This application includes various questions designed to evaluate the adopter's preferences, lifestyle, and overall suitability. It also requires a veterinary reference and two personal references from non-family members. If a veterinary reference is unavailable, three personal references will be necessary. Applicants must submit digital photos of their home and yard, and a home visit will be conducted. Once an adoption is approved, the new owner is required to take their dog to a veterinarian within seven days. Each adopted animal will come with a medical booklet detailing all veterinary care prior to adoption and providing specific follow-up instructions. All animals will be current on age-appropriate vaccinations before adoption. Unless health issues prevent it, they will also receive topical flea and tick protection and, depending on their age, will be started on heartworm prevention or provided with the first dose. Animals older than four months will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. For those under four months, the adoption contract mandates that spaying or neutering be completed by the time the animal reaches six months of age. Proof of this procedure will be required, and a designated member of our organization will follow up to obtain this proof. According to the contract, the adoptive family will not officially own the animal until we receive confirmation of the spaying or neutering. If this surgery is not performed, we reserve the right to reclaim the pet as stipulated in the contract.

Service Areas

We are based in Schoharie County, New York, but we are willing to serve individuals regardless of location, provided we can arrange transportation. There are no geographical restrictions on our service area, as long as we can conduct the necessary reference checks, complete the home review and approval process—with assistance from rescue partners in those regions—and coordinate transport with the adoptive families. Additionally, we will support other organizations and shelters by facilitating adoptions from those facilities, as long as transportation to our area can be arranged.

This approach not only helps more animals find permanent homes but also provides vital financial assistance to the shelters. Furthermore, we are committed to education through both online platforms and events. Our educational initiatives focus on preventing overpopulation by promoting the importance of spaying and neutering. We also raise awareness about the animals in need of homes, encouraging adoption through rescues instead of pet shops or breeders.
