Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the adoption application. Individuals interested in adopting an animal from Saving Tails Animal Rescue can view all available animals on the STAR website. Once they find an animal they wish to meet, they complete an adoption application. This application initiates the potential adoption process but does not obligate the applicant to the specific animal they are applying for; it simply serves as a request to meet an available STAR animal. Next, all applications undergo a thorough review. If the applicant appears to be a suitable match for the animal, the application will be forwarded to the foster caregiver. If the foster caregiver believes the applicant would be a good fit for their foster animal, they will reach out to the applicant to answer any questions and arrange a meet-and-greet. It is important to note that finding the right match between the animal and the adopter is crucial. An application that is not approved for a specific animal does not imply that the adopter would not be a great pet guardian; it may simply indicate that the adoption was not the right match. Once the meet-and-greet is scheduled, it will take place at a convenient location for the foster caregiver. While adoption events are preferred, meet-and-greets can also occur at the caregiver’s home, the potential adopter’s home, or an animal-friendly business. If the animal is determined to be a suitable match for the adopter following the meet-and-greet, the adoption status will be marked as pending. A home visit will then be conducted by a STAR volunteer to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the animal. This visit will also verify any specific requirements, such as whether a dog needs a fenced yard. After the home visit receives approval, the adoption can be finalized. This process involves completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee. Finally, arrangements will be made with the foster caregiver for the new family member to be picked up.
