Adoption Process

The adoption fee is $300. However, this fee is waived for senior citizen adopters of senior dogs. The adoption process includes completing an application, participating in an interview, undergoing a home visit, and signing an adoption agreement.

English Springer Rescue America, Inc. (ESRA) is a national organization dedicated to the referral and foster care of purebred English Springer Spaniels, operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. ESRA's mission is to provide temporary care for English Springers that have been impounded by humane societies, private shelters, and animal control facilities across the country. The organization also offers adoption referral services to these agencies. ESRA has no paid staff; all members contribute their time and efforts on a voluntary basis. English Springers face the same risks of impoundment as any other dog. They may be found as strays on the streets or relinquished by their owners due to various circumstances, such as relocation, illness or death, financial difficulties, or other personal challenges. ESRA provides adoption referral assistance for owners who can no longer care for their Springers. Thanks to the dedication and compassion of its volunteers, ESRA has successfully placed thousands of English Springers in loving homes. To be considered for inclusion in ESRA's database of prospective adoptive homes, interested individuals can complete an adoption application. Once the application is received and approved, applicants will be entered into the database of homes seeking to adopt available dogs. This database includes dogs in shelters, foster homes, and those being surrendered by their owners. ESRA was founded on March 25, 1998, by Jan Flagg, a resident of Southern California. In the summer of 1998, ESRA's management played a key role in establishing the now-defunct English Springer Spaniel Rescue Coalition (ESSRC), which served as an early alliance of independent rescue groups and laid the groundwork for the English Springer Spaniel Rescue movement as it exists today.
