Adoption Process
To begin the adoption process, please contact us via telephone or email for an initial interview. After that, you will need to complete an application, which we will review. If everything is satisfactory, you can schedule an appointment to meet your potential new family member, as we operate through in-home care. If the meeting goes well, you will be able to take your new companion home at that time. We ensure that all animals are prepared for adoption; if your home is not ready, you will need to return once it is. To help our rescues adjust, we offer a two-week trial period during which you can return the animal for a full refund if things do not work out. We ask that if you ever need to surrender your dog in the future, you return it to us unless we approve a different home. Our adoption fees are typically around $200, although this may vary. For dogs we have had for an extended period, the fee may be reduced, while for dogs with significant medical expenses, the fee might be higher. Please note that our fees may increase in accordance with rising veterinary costs. Currently, the fee is set at $200.
Service Areas
We facilitate adoptions in Wisconsin and are open to out-of-state adoptions, provided the potential adopters are willing to meet us and interact with their new family member. However, we reserve the right to decline any adoption that we believe may not be in the best interest of our rescue. We offer a two-week trial period during which a refund is available.
Highway of Hope Animal Sanctuary in Baraboo, WI
Maureen and I previously worked at a humane society where we witnessed the euthanasia of animals due to space constraints, temperament issues, health problems, and even minor conditions such as ringworm. Disheartened by these practices, we decided to establish our own no-kill rescue organization, with the exception of cases involving severe pain and suffering. We provide a safe and loving environment in our homes for dogs and puppies, ensuring they receive necessary veterinary care and spaying or neutering. We address any medical issues, including treating conditions like parvo, and have achieved significant success with our treatment efforts. Since our rescue operates from our home, it is essential that the dogs we take in are compatible with other dogs, cats, and children accustomed to pets. Each rescue dog begins training immediately upon arrival and integrates into our family of well-adjusted dogs, which greatly aids their development. Both of us have fenced yards, allowing for safe outdoor play. We also provide corrective training for issues such as food and toy aggression, as well as any other behavioral challenges. We are selective about the animals we accept, only taking in those we believe we can help, as our rescue serves as a lifelong sanctuary for those not adopted. Additionally, we take in mill dogs, which require a longer rehabilitation process. Currently, we cannot accommodate large numbers of dogs, as we are caring for several senior dogs and a few that will remain with us permanently. As these senior dogs pass away naturally, we will have the opportunity to take in more animals. If we encounter purebred dogs, we make an effort to place them with breed-specific rescues, as they typically have better adoption prospects and possess specialized knowledge regarding the needs of those breeds.
