Adoption Process
The adoption process begins with completing an adoption application. After the application is reviewed and approved, a meet and greet will be scheduled to determine if the dog and adopter are a good match. If they are, the adoption will be finalized. We often receive multiple applications for the same dog. While many applicants could provide a loving home, we must carefully select the one that will be the best fit for that specific dog. Adoption fees vary based on the dog. In 2023, the fees are $400 for puppies, $350 for adults, and $250 for seniors aged 8 and older. All adult dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. They have undergone a medical health check-up, and any specific health requirements will be documented. Puppies have received a wellness vet visit, their first vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping. Owning a dog entails significant ongoing expenses, including veterinary care, feeding, and grooming. We encourage potential adopters to consider these responsibilities before deciding to adopt a dog. We express our gratitude to the over 2,000 families who have given our dogs a loving Forever Home. Our adoption contract includes several important conditions. The adopter agrees to accept the dog from WELFARE FOR ANIMALS GUILD (WAG) and to return the dog to WAG if they can no longer care for it, without relinquishing it to any city or county shelter. The adopter must comply with local animal control regulations, provide proper food and care, and ensure that the dog has an adequately fenced yard. Veterinary care must be provided as needed, including necessary vaccinations. WAG only places dogs as pets, and legal action will be taken against anyone using dogs for other purposes or altering their appearance. The adopter agrees to keep an ID tag on the dog at all times and update microchip information. If the dog is lost and reclaimed by WAG, the adopter must retrieve the dog within 48 hours or incur a boarding fee after that period. The adopter agrees not to transport the dog in an open vehicle bed and to notify WAG immediately if the dog is lost. WAG reserves the right to conduct follow-up visits to ensure compliance with the contract and is not responsible for medical care incurred after placement. The adopter acknowledges that the dog may have behavioral issues and agrees to notify WAG of any such problems. Puppies must be taken to obedience training within five months of adoption at the adopter's expense, and must be spayed or neutered by six months of age, with proof provided to WAG. The selection and adoption of the dog are based on the adopter's observations and judgments, and WAG is not responsible for the dog's temperament, behavior, genetics, or health. WAG retains the right to reclaim the dog if the conditions of the agreement are not met, and the adopter agrees to hold WAG harmless for any personal or property damage resulting from the adoption. This contract is legally binding, and in the event of a breach, the parties may pursue all remedies available under Washington State contract law, including attorney’s fees and costs related to any lawsuits for enforcement.
