Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, please submit a completed adoption application for the animal you wish to adopt. Once we receive your application, we will take a few days to process it. As part of the process, we will contact your veterinarian and personal references. It is important to inform them in advance and give permission for them to speak with one of our volunteers, which will help expedite the process. After we have spoken with your references and thoroughly reviewed your application, we will reach out to discuss the dog(s) you are interested in and address any questions we may have. This phone call is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and express any concerns. If everything proceeds smoothly, we will either conduct a home check next or invite you to meet the dog, depending on whether the dog is currently in Maryland and the distance from our location. If you live far away, a volunteer will perform the home check before you come to meet the dog. This way, if the meet and greet goes well, your family will be fully approved to bring your new pet home. All members of the household, including resident dogs, are required to attend the meet and greet. When you are ready to take your new companion home, you will need to complete an adoption contract and pay the associated adoption fee. We recommend bringing a leash and collar, preferably a martingale style collar, to ensure your new dog does not slip out and escape as they adjust to their new surroundings. We serve all of Maryland and the surrounding states. We can also accommodate adopters from other states if they are willing to travel to meet the dog in person.

Our mission is to rescue homeless, abandoned, or unwanted animals that are at risk of death, abuse, or neglect. We are committed to placing these animals in loving, responsible, and permanent homes through a comprehensive adoption process. This process includes detailed applications, questionnaires, and conversations to ensure suitable matches, as well as educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs associated with bringing an animal into their lives. Animals in our care are spayed or neutered when appropriate, receive necessary veterinary care and treatment, and are placed in nurturing foster homes while awaiting their forever homes. The majority of our funding is directed towards the care of the animals. We remain dedicated to the welfare of each animal even after the adoption process is complete. Additionally, we strive to collaborate with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations nationwide to build a network of supporters and volunteers, with the goal of creating a better world for homeless pets.
