Adoption Process
The adoption process involves several steps to ensure a good match between the animal and the adopting family. First, interested individuals should complete an adoption application available on our website. After submission, the BFP Adoption Department will review the application. If a suitable rescue animal becomes available in the applicant's area, BFP will reach out for a phone interview. Following the interview, BFP will conduct a reference check and arrange for a home visit. This home check may be conducted in person or virtually, depending on the applicant's location. If the home check meets our standards, a meet and greet will be organized between the animal and the prospective family. Once all steps are satisfactorily completed, BFP will finalize the adoption process, which includes completing the necessary paperwork and providing some basic training on how to welcome and care for the new pet. Adoption fees range from $20 to $700, depending on the animal. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to provide a safe, caring, and loving environment for the animal. Adopters are required to enter into a contract committing to provide love, adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care for the adopted animal. They must also agree to notify BFP if they can no longer keep the animal and to return it to BFP if necessary. Adopters are prohibited from giving away or selling the animal and must not take the animal to any shelters, humane societies, pounds, research facilities, kennels, or laboratories.
