Adoption Process
Günter's Legacy is dedicated to finding permanent, loving homes for dogs and emphasizes that adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment. Prospective adopters should ensure they are ready for this responsibility. The adoption process begins with the completion and submission of an adoption application. It is important to read the entire process outlined below before submitting the application. Step 1 involves a review of all applications by the Board of Directors of Günter's Legacy Animal Rescue. Step 2 requires a mandatory home visit once the application has been reviewed and initially approved. If you live in a rental property, we will contact your landlord for approval before proceeding with the adoption. Step 3 consists of scheduling a meet and greet between the potential adopters and the dog(s). All members of the adopting family must be present at this meeting. Step 4 entails introducing any existing pets to the new dog, which must be done by a representative from Günter's Legacy Animal Rescue. We do not allow adoptions into homes that have reached their city-mandated pet limit. The dogs listed on our website are available for adoption and are seeking permanent homes. We prioritize finding individuals or families who are ready to commit to a dog for its entire lifespan, which can be up to 20 years. Adoptive families must intend for the dog to be an indoor companion and a member of the family. As a small non-profit organization, we operate entirely with unpaid volunteers. While we strive to respond to calls, emails, and applications in a timely manner, there may be instances where this is not possible. Adoption requirements include: - Adopters must be at least 21 years old. - Adopters must reside in California. - A valid California driver's license is required. - Applicants must be willing to comply with the mandatory adoption process. - The dog must be intended for the individual(s) completing the adoption application. - A representative will follow up with the adoptive family two weeks and six months post-adoption. - Adopters must commit to providing food, water, and regular veterinary care for the dog's lifetime. - Acceptance of the Günter's Legacy Animal Rescue Adoption Contract is required. - Adopters must acknowledge that Günter's Legacy Animal Rescue reserves the right to reclaim the dog without notice if any terms of the contract are violated. Please note that information about our dogs may change before our website is updated. We will provide the most current information when we contact you. While we strive to provide accurate details about our dogs' health and temperament, we cannot guarantee these aspects. Completion of the adoption application does not guarantee adoption approval. In the event an adoption does not work out, Günter's Legacy Animal Rescue will accept dogs back by appointment, as we remain committed to the well-being of the dogs for their entire lives. We encourage adopters to spend at least a week with their new dog to facilitate adjustment before making any decisions about returning the animal. Our adoption fees are as follows: - Puppies under 1 year: $300 - Seniors over 7: $150 - Adults aged 1-6: $200 We require an adoption application, an adoption contract, and we conduct reference and veterinary checks for prior pet ownership.

Gunter's Legacy Animal Rescue Inc in Vallejo, CA
Our organization is dedicated to reducing the number of animals in shelters by facilitating owner surrenders and offering support to help individuals keep their pets through financial assistance, training, food, and medical care. Our mission is inspired by Gunter, a stray with significant aggression issues who would likely have faced euthanasia if surrendered to a shelter. We envision a future without the need for shelters; until that day arrives, we will continue to rescue animals deemed unadoptable from shelters and provide them with the love and training necessary to help them find permanent homes.
