Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please fill out the Adoption Application for the specific pet you have in mind. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption; it helps us assess whether you, your home, your family, and your lifestyle are suitable for the pet. If your application appears to be a good match, we will reach out to you via phone or email to arrange a meet and greet at your home, as well as a home check to ensure a safe environment for the pet. If all goes well, we can proceed with finalizing the adoption. This includes signing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee, which helps cover veterinary expenses. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated according to their age, and microchipped before adoption. At the time of adoption, you will receive a copy of the adoption contract, adoption receipt, available veterinary records, microchip registration card, and a personalized engraved identification tag. Some items may be mailed to you within a week after the adoption is completed. Please note that you must reside in California and be at least 18 years old to adopt.

Joy of Life Rescue is a rescue organization based in Southern California. We operate as a foster-based rescue, meaning we do not have a physical location or facility. Our work is made possible by the commitment of our dedicated volunteer foster parents, who provide their time and resources to house, train, transport, and care for our pets until they find permanent homes. Our mission is to ensure the safety and welfare of all pets in need. All pets in our care receive veterinary examinations, are spayed or neutered, vaccinated according to their age, microchipped, groomed, trained or rehabilitated, and treated for any medical conditions. The only exceptions may be pregnant or nursing mothers and young litters, whose care will be directed by a California state-licensed veterinarian prior to adoption.
