Adoption Process
Our Adoption Process: Finding the right pet for your lifestyle is essential. Our adoption counselors will ask a variety of questions to help identify which pet will thrive in your home. This ensures that you will have a loving companion for their lifetime. As part of the process, we will ask you to complete an adoption application that includes: - Details about the pet you are considering adopting. - Questions regarding your past experiences with pets and your expectations for caring for this new pet. - Approval from your landlord or rental agency to have the type of pet you wish to adopt, if you rent or lease your living space. - A letter of reference from your veterinarian, as some of our pets have previously encountered serious medical conditions. We want to ensure your commitment to providing the necessary ongoing care. Please be aware that we work with homeless and unwanted animals, many of whom come from uncertain backgrounds through local shelters. Most of these animals may have medical or behavioral issues that we have addressed, along with their overall well-being. While the adoption process may take time, our goal is to maximize each animal's chances for a successful and permanent home. Adopting a companion pet is a significant decision, and responsible pet ownership requires a substantial commitment. In return, we ask that you love and care for your new pet for its entire life and make a donation that will help us assist the next animal in need. Adoptions Include: - Complete treatment of any medical conditions that the pet arrived with, such as orthopedic surgery, demodex, cystotomy, parvo, or upper respiratory infections. This treatment often involves weeks to months of medication and nursing care. - For pets requiring ongoing or lifetime treatment, adopters will receive at least 1 to 6 months’ worth of medications. - A general health examination and blood work. - Spay or neuter surgery. - Heartworm testing, along with any necessary treatment or preventative care. - Felines will be tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline AIDS). - Fecal testing and any needed treatment or preventative care. - Current vaccinations. - Basic obedience training for canines. - Dental work for all pets that require it, particularly those over the age of 2 to 3 years. - An adoption or exit exam to discuss the pet’s medical and care history, as well as future needs. Adoption Fees: We request that adopters make a donation to support the care of the next pet in need. Some adopters choose to make a one-time donation, while others may start with an initial contribution and continue to donate periodically to express their gratitude and support our mission.
