The Dexter Foundation Dog Rescue in Redondo Beach, CA
The Dexter Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to giving shelter dogs a second chance at life, inspired by a Boston Terrier named Dexter who was fortunate enough to receive such an opportunity. Our mission includes assisting shelter dogs and collaborating with rescue organizations that adopt dogs often misunderstood by potential adopters. We help owners find new homes for their dogs by advertising them, screening applicants, and ensuring they are placed in loving forever homes. We work in partnership with other rescues and provide funding for the rescue and care of shelter dogs. Additionally, we offer a safe haven for abandoned dogs that are frequently overlooked. In these challenging economic times, many owners are compelled to surrender or abandon their pets, often when the dogs simply need temporary medical care. With the support of the community, The Dexter Foundation is able to save the lives of these otherwise happy and healthy dogs. Dexter's story began at a shelter in San Diego, where he was left behind by his owner who could no longer care for him. This owner entrusted Dexter to someone who instead contacted animal control. Out of fear, Dexter bit an officer and was subsequently labeled as "aggressive," facing euthanasia. Fortunately, a rescue group that specializes in dogs with behavioral issues recognized that a dog's behavior in a shelter does not reflect its true nature and stepped in to save him. Having spent his early years with only one person and without exposure to other dogs or people, Dexter faced an uncertain future when he was abandoned. After two unsuccessful placements while he learned to socialize, he was taken in by the president of the rescue organization, who fell in love with his vibrant personality. Today, Dexter lives with two rescued brothers, Blue and Scout, and a sister named Annabelle, all of whom were adopted from shelters across Southern California. Annabelle and Scout were at risk of euthanasia due to their fear of new people. Together, they have learned to thrive in a family environment, bringing joy and love to their new home. Dexter and all dogs like him are deeply appreciative of the many rescue groups that have offered second chances. The Dexter Foundation seeks your support to continue providing funding and assistance to dogs and rescue organizations dedicated to helping misunderstood dogs find new beginnings.
