Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with an online application. Following the application, a phone interview will be conducted to discuss your expectations for a dog and to identify a potential match. Next, a home safety check will be performed to ensure the environment is dog-proof and to highlight any potential safety hazards, requiring the presence of all family members. Once a suitable match is found, the adoption can take place. Adopters have the option to visit San Luis Obispo to meet the dogs in person or, if a decision has already been made, a volunteer can deliver the dog directly to them. Adoption donations are as follows: for puppies six months or younger, the fee is $500; for dogs seven months to one year, the fee is $425; and for dogs one year and older, the fee is $350. We value ongoing communication with our adopters and aim to follow up with a visit approximately six months after the adoption. In the event that you wish to return your dog, Camp Cocker will accept any adopted dog back at any time and for any reason.
