Adoption Process

We carefully match our dogs with their new owners based on the dogs' needs and personalities. Applicants are required to complete an application form. Following this, we conduct a phone interview, perform a home visit, and check references. If we identify a dog that appears to be a good fit, we arrange a meeting between the dog and the potential adopters, typically in the foster home to ensure the dog is in a comfortable and familiar setting. Our adoption contract stipulates that adopters must provide proper care for the dog, keep the dog as an indoor pet, and return the dog to us if they can no longer keep it. The adoption fee varies based on the age and condition of the dog, generally ranging from $200 to $400.

Bay Area Rescue Keeshonden, Inc. in Los Altos, CA

BARK is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization recognized under 501(c)(3) status. We focus on rescuing lost and abandoned Keeshonden, as well as similar breeds and mixes, from animal shelters and individuals who can no longer care for them. Our dogs are fostered in the homes of dedicated volunteers who provide essential care, including food, shelter, grooming, and attention to ensure their well-being. Each rescued dog undergoes a veterinary examination, is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworms. We also microchip our dogs for permanent identification and provide treatment for known illnesses or medical issues on an individual basis. We work closely with prospective adoptive families to match each dog with the right forever home. Our commitment extends beyond adoption; we follow up with families and offer ongoing advice and support throughout the dog's life. If circumstances change, we are willing to accept our dogs back at any time. Our goal is to ensure that our dogs and their new families enjoy a happy and fulfilling life together. As a non-profit dog rescue organization, BARK does not receive government funding. We depend entirely on adoption fees and tax-deductible donations to cover veterinary expenses, spaying and neutering, shelter fees, grooming, foster care, and other costs. All work is performed by volunteers, and we have no paid staff. Every dollar raised goes directly to support our foster dogs.
